Uruguay up to fifth in rankings

Post by peggy1258 on Wed Jul 27, 2011 11:15 am

Copa America winners Uruguay have moved up to fifth in the new Fifa world rankings.

The South Americans now occupy their highest-ever position in the rankings after a move of 13 places from the last published list in June.

Spain, Holland and Germany remain unchanged in the top three places, while Copa America quarter-finalists Brazil have moved up one place to fourth.

Uruguay, who won a record 15th Copa America title with a 3-0 win over Paraguay on Sunday, were the only team to break into the top 10 with Mexico dropping out.

Although Mexico won the Gold Cup last month, they have dropped from ninth to 20th after failing to earn a point as they suffered a group exit at the Copa America.
England

Both England and Italy drop two places to sixth and eighth, respectively, with Portugal unmoved in seventh. Croatia and Argentina round out the top 10.

The Republic of Ireland drop two places to 33rd while Scotland and Northern Ireland remain 61st and 62nd, respectively, with Wales moving up two places to 112th.
