Sigh......
So I do technical writing for some additional income. Mainly on ophthalmic optics and lens design. Well I have one due this wed. This guy is paying me quite a bit for a 4,000 word article he can turn into a continuing education article for eye care professionals. Guess how much work I have done so far? NEXT TO NONE!!!!! Guess when I accepted this assignment? A MONTH AGO!!!
Instead I flipping between here, our forum and the KAPS forum! I was dumb to choose a subject that I'm not super familiar with...bio-compatibility of contact lens solutions!
I swear I should get checked for ADD sometimes!

Re: Sigh......
I was really impressed when you told me that you did that. Sounds like the absolute perfect way to earn some extra money on the side!
O_O Oh wow! Lol that is really not good!! Umm...yeah, you might want to get started on that! xD I don't know how you can put stuff off like that - I get so stressed really easily hehe. Still, you have a few more days to finish it. Just do a little more cramming!!
Good luck! Hope it turns out well.

Re: Sigh......
I know, most people get impressed about that untill I tell them the reality. No one in this field likes to write so the few that will get easy work. The pay runs from $100-$500 an article. The down side is you have to spread it out since most publications don't want your articles being run in several places at the same time. I have the technical knowledge but my general writing skills suck! Thank goodness for editors! But they don't have the technical knowledge so they end up taking out an essential part or mess up a formula. Then you get the angry emails from people who think I'm an idiot. So I end up busting my butt trying to include as much technical info. as I can to make my work stand out. In order to be taken seriously I then have to take advanced exams to increase my certification levels. Last year I was one of two who passed this particular test and the only one to pass on the first try in the U.S. and I'm one of only three with this certification in Illinois. Sounds pretty cool huh? 'Till I have to give some one my reseme. All they can think of is "damn we can't afford him". So now my only other option is to work for a major lens manufacturer. I did so for a while. The president of the company read one of my articles and was shocked that it was me. I got the job thinking it was going to be a kind of optical tech. support. Instead they turned me into a rep. who had the entire midwest! So I would head down to Reno for "training" then get dumped in some strange town for a week, missing my wife and kids, trying to figure out what the hell I was doing! Since I had three other people that were dropping the ball leaving me with no info! After that I asked for my old job back and here I am...stuck for life
Wow...what a good rant! If I could type my papers like that it would be awsome!!

Re: Sigh......
That's quite an accomplishment! Seems like there are downs to possessing all that knowledge though.. :/
You know what you should really be doing? Working for the government. In their secret underground bases. You could be working with teams of other optometrists as well as scientists and those with doctorates to develop insanely cool eye-wear! Like uber spy glasses and glasses that allow you the capabilities to zoom in to far away places or see through walls. Yeah... That's the job for you.
Haha no, but seriously! That would be very upsetting if your editors took out some of the really important information. I understand that editors probably don't have any higher than a bachelor's degree, but you would think they would know important information when they see it. Reading through your articles, I thought they'd just be fixing grammatical errors and sentence structure and other writing mechanics, not necessarily taking out bits of your sentences. Odd!

Re: Sigh......
Wow man, you guys got some heavy stresses in your lifes, I'm being serious, I will never bitch about the things I deal with like poopy pants or seperating 2 fighting girls over the newest polly pocket! It's actually one of the reasons I chose to walk away from my job running a data center for a major health care provider because I was on call 24/7 for over 4 years, and I'll tell ya when something went down and you had to stay up for 72 hours straight to fix and retrieve data you DO start seeing ghosts!

Two girls killing each other over Polly Pockets! It's like you've been to my house!!! I have two girls, one 4 and the other 2. Boy they can brawl with the best of 'em!
Re: Sigh......
Yeah I got 3 but the older one usually knows how to steer clear of trouble. It's the 2 smaller ones who like to hand out the smacks!

Re: Sigh......
Dude...I do NOT envy anyone dealing with children all day. I have two toddlers, and I do not know how my wife does it all day. Kids are intense.

Don't scare me, Stew! I'm going to have to do that someday...

Ha.... It's never as bad when it's your own kids. But when they are little, and Donn can attest, they are more than a handful. In fact I'm watching my two little ghoulies while my wife is working. I must be stupid but i'm getting ready to take them both to the mall. I may not make it back .
Re: Sigh......
Yeah, I'm sure it is a lot different. I remember babysitting when I was a teenager... That was exhausting!
Oh God, Stew. Have an energy drink or something!
