From south bound Interstate H1, follow Kalanianaole Highway (SR72)

From south bound Interstate H1, follow Kalanianaole Highway (SR72) east past Hanauma Bay State Park and Sandy Beach Park. Observe the Hawaii Kai Golf Course, and proceed about .5 miles (0.80 km). To the right a gate blocks the trail entrance.[4]

This is a moderate 2 miles (3.2 km) hike. Although paved[20] it is "quite steep in spots." No shade and no outhouse or restroom facilities exist. An A.M. start is advised to beat the heat. Bring water and wear sunscreen. Parking is along the street.[4][23] Unusual cacti are along the trail.[20]

The experience and view is said to be worth the walk. However, the parking area is a "high theft area", is so posted, and leaving valuables in the car is ill-advised.[24]
