Burnley have wrapped up the signing of Keith Treacy from local rivals Preston North End for an undisclosed fee.

Preston accepted a 'significant offer' for Treacy on Sunday after previously rejecting three bids for the Republic of Ireland international.

Treacy, who started his career at Blackburn, has agreed a three-year deal at Turf Moor after passing a medical.

The winger made 58 appearances during his Preston career and will help to fill the void at Burnley created by Chris Eagles' sale to Bolton last week.

The relegated Lilywhites had been loath to let one of their star performers go but chairman Maurice Lindsay had earlier revealed their precarious financial situation meant the offer was too good to turn down.

Treacy admits it was a difficult decision to leave Preston for Burnley but one which he had to make in order to further his career.

Speaking on his new club's official website, Treacy said: "I'm sorry to be leaving them [Preston] but you've got to think about yourself and be selfish.

"I enjoyed my time at Preston. Their relegation was unfortunate, but obviously I'm looking to better myself as a player, have the best career I can and play as many games as I can for Ireland."
