Apparitions -- TAPs' Own Video Game
http://starmountainstudios.com/apparitions
Star Mountain Studios has teamed up with premiere paranormal
investigators, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, the founders of The Atlantic
Paranormal Society (TAPS), to create a game inspired by the work they do.
The game Apparitions has the player working with the Peter Wren Paranormal
Investigation Agency to examine and document strange happenings at the Red
Reef Inn, an old hotel located in the Florida Keys. New owners have taken
over the inn and have begun to renovate in an attempt to bring it back to
its former glory. Unfortunate for them but fortunate for the
investigators, renovating old structures such as this, with long and
troubled histories, tend to stir up the ghosts of the past. Literally.
The player is given tools familiar to paranormal investigators such as an
EMF detector, digital voice recorder and a thermal camera. Additionally
the player can place up to six remote cameras to try and catch events in
rooms other than the one they are currently investigating. If all else
fails there is Lucy, a sensitive, who can help guide the player towards
possible events in the area. Though that help does come at a cost.
Has anyone else tried this game yet? You can download a free trial from their website (yes, it actually costs money to play). Actually, the game itself you can get for a one-time only fee of just $19.95!! What kind of game is it, you ask? Oh, you know, one of those cheesy, cheap Flash games that college students make for websites that you can play everywhere else for free. But isn't it any better since you get to be a ghost hunter? No. It seriously isn't. Perhaps I didn't give it enough time, as I just downloaded and tried the trial. But hey, I am not going to spend that much money on a Flash game, and anyone who does must seriously be a devoted fan of the TV show.
Any other opinions?

I can understand cashing in on your popularity while you still have it...but I would think the guys would try to at least make sure that the product showed a LITTLE bit of quality...for the sake of the field (Since weather we like it or not, they are the public face of what we do)
I hope it at least is better than the free game on the 'Paranormal State' site...

Yeah, I'm sure they're pretty happy about their success, and making a game sounds like an awesome idea. I'm not sure exactly how much say they really get in this, but I would think they'd want it to be a bit better than what was produced. Not only that, but the price alone is a bit extreme.
lol I haven't played those games before...

I saw some screen caps of it, and honestly it did not look that interesting. The only reason anyone would buy a game like that is the association with TAPS...I guess. If I wanted to be scared, I'd snuggle up with a nice survival horror game. There are so many new ones that look ghastly, this one doesnt even compare.

Ahhh...but to any of those games actually let you USE a thermal imaging camera?!?!?

lol I'm sure after you've actually had the privilege of using a thermal camera, it's not as exciting any more.
And how often do you get to shoot zombies or scum everyday?
Re: Apparitions -- TAPs' Own Video Game
I've got it and supposidly, they will be releasing more maps *updates to come they claim* as they develop them for more areas of the hotel as well as the grounds.
I am one of the first 100 people to buy it (you are assigned investigator numbers when you do) and it's 'okay'. A few glitches that they cleared up, but your right, a cute flash game. The kids play it for fun when 'teasing me' - they have higher scores than me (you can have others play under their one names, which is nice).
I think it's based on the Florida hotel they will be investigating later this coming fall.

That game sounds cool, I want to try it. I wish they'd make a game about "The Othersiders," too. that would be cool.
