New Zealand coach Graham Henry has opted to rest Richie McCaw and Dan Carter for the game against South Africa on August 20.

Skipper McCaw and fly-half Carter have both been left at home for the trip to Port Elizabeth, along with Owen Franks, Corey Flynn, Brad Thorn, Kieran Read, Conrad Smith and Mils Muliaina.

Sitiveni Sivivatu has also been omitted from Henry's 25-man travelling party after suffering a fractured eye socket in the 30-14 victory over Australia.

"There is real excitement amongst the squad."
Graham Henry Quotes of the week

However prop John Afoa - who fractured a cheekbone against the Springboks in the opening game of the tournament - is included by Henry.

There are also recalls for a number of players who are returning from injury.
