The House I grew up in
Obviously, this is an interesting location for me, personally - My house was the one where wierd things were commonplace, lights would turn on/off on their own (Only once did this really freak me out - I was a teen, on my own for a week, and went to the store one night, when I came back 5 or 6 lights that I were not on when I left were on when I got back, including the attic light (access is through a drop ladder in a very cluttered closet) It took me a while to get up the nerver to go inside that night.) Doors and cabinets would open and close on their own, you could hear things on the stairs (always sounded like a hard rubber ball rolling down.) Voices could be heard occasionally and a couple of times strange lights were seen, and once I heard music coming from the basement - unplugged clock radio was the only thing that I found to explain that (if you want to call that an explaination...) - there were some specific personal events as well, maybe I will share them someday...
-Growing up like that, it was difficult to avoid being interested in the paranormal.
There was an empty lot next door, but there had been a house there until I was 4 or so. (I vaguely remember playing with the little girl who lived there...)
anyway, one day they moved and a week later, the house was bulldozed. The point of this - about 5 years ago I met a guy who it was, throug idle conversation, discovered used to live in that house. (this would have been before I was born - he said that he was 11 when they moved out.) Anyway with no prompting at all, he started talking about all the strange things that used to happen in that house - strange lights outside the windows, doors opening/closing, lights turning on/off etc. Needless to say, I think I went and scared him a little.
My mother still lives in the house, I visit often, but nothing strange has happened to me there since I left for college in 92...someday I'll get up the nerve to take some equipment in there and see if there is anything lingering.

Re: The House I grew up in
Your house and the not vacant lot next door seem like some paranormal hot spots. That seems like typical activity worth investigating in this field. That's really crazy too that you ran into a guy that used to live in that house next door! If he had experienced things also, perhaps the land itself that the houses were built on has some sort of history?
Let us know if you ever do go back to investigate someday!

Well...here goes.
It looks like this is going to be my team's first 'test' investigation spot. Friday-Saturday, May 17-18. ...this is one case where I'm not sure I want to find anything.

Wow, so you're going back then?? Sounds like it should be interesting. lol I understand how you must feel. Keep us updated in the future!
Re: The House I grew up in
Aesalon, I know *exactly* how you feel.
The reason why I got so interested in the paranormal was because of things that happened in the house I grew up in. There was some seriously spooky stuff that went on there (me seeing figures, friends and I catching EVPs when we were taping ourselves talking, etc).
My group constantly asks if we can go to the house now and tell the owners about what happened to me there to see if we can do an investigation, but I always refuse. It's far too personal for me.

Re: The House I grew up in
Interesting update - I was researching the property and found that the house was moved to the current location (in the 40's) to be a parsonage for a church - there was a small cemetery somewhere on the church property that was moved in 1949 after the church burned down (the house was actually used for the church for about year until they rebuilt a few miles away.) and the area was zoned residential and the neighborhood grew up around it.
Maybe a reason for things?

Re: The House I grew up in
So first the house itself moved, then the cemetery was moved? Why did they move them? Seems like a lot of effort. Strange!
Re: The House I grew up in
Maybe they wanted more land or something?? Just my first thought

Re: The House I grew up in
Oh yeah, that could be.
Sorry, I think I forgot to turn my brain on today. Kyle, you do my thinking, okay? When I leave to go to computer class and come back on here to just sit around for 2 hours, I'll be a puddle of lackofmindpower. Watch out, people!

Re: The House I grew up in
No worries, after I read it back it wasn't completely clear on my part anyway - I'll run it like a timeline (though I don't have all the years, this is the order:
-1925-Church w/ Cemetery built.
-1940(ish) House moved from unknown location to current location for use as church parsonage
-1948(ish) Church burned to the ground - house was used temporarily as church.
-1949 New chuch building (also no longer in existance...) is built
-1949 Cemetery moved to area north of town (either to be closer to the new church or because the West end of Council Bluffs is a flood plain, and at that time the Missouri River was not channeled/damned - thus a bad spot for a cemetery.)
-1958 My parents buy the house (I have no records after the church sold the property in 49/50 up to this time.
This is good practice for me to work on more professionally presenting evidence.

Ahh, okay, I understand that better now. To tell you the truth, I had to reread your original post a couple of times to try and understand.
